The New York Mets got what they had to have in Game 3 of the World Series — a victory.
David Wright and Curtis Granderson knocked in six runs between them, and pitcher Noah Syndergaard did his part by striking out six over six innings, whipping Kansas City 9-3.
No team in the Fall Classic has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit, and thanks to the win, New York won’t have to tempt fate.
“I think every game in the Series obviously is a must-win situation,” Granderson told reporters after the game. “You come into tonight obviously down two games to nothing … So to get this one definitely is good for us.”
Heading into the Halloween Game 4 showdown, the Royals lead the Series 2-1.
Friday’s game was tight through the first five stanzas, with New York holding on to a 5-3 lead.
But in the sixth, Mets bats came to life, plating four runners and putting the game away.
“To be able to fight back the way that we did, we were relentless tonight,” Wright said. “And it seemed like every time they had an answer, we had an answer right back. And I think that’s the type of baseball that got us here.”
Game 4 will be played Saturday night in New York. Ghosts and goblins beware.
