Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Thursday he wore a Donald Trump tie during Wednesday night’s debate because he likes it, not as a topic for conversation.
Huckabee used the tie as a prop in his answer to a question from a moderator in Wednesday’s third Republican debate.
“I love Donald Trump, I’m wearing a Trump tie tonight,” Huckabee replied to a question the CNBC debate moderators posed about Trump, rather than engaging in a potential back-and-forth.
“You are telling me that you didn’t intentionally wear the tie last night as something to bring up during the debate, it was just happenstance?” asked CNN’s Chris Cuomo of Huckabee on “New Day.”
“No, absolutely, because I didn’t expect that I was going to get a Donald Trump question, I thought we were going to focus on the economy, that’s what we were told,” Huckabee said. “Honestly, it is one of my favorite ties.”
Huckabee said he wore the tie because purple is his granddaughter’s favorite color.
