HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has approved a $2.5 million grant for the Curwensville Municipal Authority to rehabilitate leaking pipe and replace obsolete manholes, according to state Sen. John N. Wozniak (D-Cambria/Clearfield/Bedford).
“The new funds from PENNVEST involve replacing or repairing thousands of feet of leaking pipe,” Wozniak said. “In areas where there are issues with the integrity of the pipe, there is significant infiltration into the system which causes overflow.”
Wozniak, who recently completed a “Walk with Wozniak” in the borough, said he is pleased the funds were approved and would not have to be re-paid. As a result, he said, user fees are not expected to increase as a result of this project.
“Communities that have old wastewater systems are often plagued by infiltration during periods of wet weather,” Wozniak said. “The old clay pipe and brick manholes are now obsolete and need to be fixed or repaired.”
The Curwensville Municipal Authority serves the borough and Pike Township.
