WOMEN’S SOCCER
ERIE — Freshman midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) recorded her first goal for Penn State Behrend as the Lions remained in the thick of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference race by rolling past La Roche 7-2 at Behrend Field Saturday.
Munshower’s hard shot into the left corner on Alex Bilka’s cross to the top of the box increased the Lions’ cushion to 6-0 in the 31st minute and gave Bilka her fourth assist to go with one goal.
Munshower also got off one shot in Penn State Behrend’s 2-1 loss at Pitt-Bradford in last Wednesday’s showdown for the PSAC lead.
Sophomore midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) was credited with one shot while sophomore defender Katie Powers (Clearfield) also saw action in a reserve role against La Roche.
Munshower has three points and six shots in 10 games, Aleksivich has one goal and four shots in eight games and Powers has one assist and one shot in 10 games.
The Lions are 7-6-1 and tied for second place in the PSAC at 4-1.

CLARION — After starting two games on defense, sophomore Carlee Freeburg (Clearfield) returned to Clarion’s attack unit last week and was credited with her third shot of the season in a reserve role Saturday when Kutztown shut out the Golden Eagles 3-0 loss at Memorial Stadium.
Freeburg made her 12th consecutive start Oct. 7 in a tough 2-1 loss to Gannon (11-0), ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Clarion has a 3-9-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record.

MEN’S GOLF
WARREN, Ohio — Pitt-Bradford sophomore Brett Gardner (Curwensville) turned in one of the best second-round scores of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club Monday, and the 81 boosted him into a tie for 19th place with a two-day total of 172.
Gardner was medalist for the Panthers in the closing round, and his total was second to Zach Spicer (162) for the season-ending tourney.
Pitt-Bradford placed fifth with a 692 aggregate in the nine-team event won by Penn State-Behrend with a 637.
Pitt-Greensburg freshman Javon Trout claimed individual honors with a 79-72-151.
Earlier in the week, Gardner carded an 86 at the Orchard Park (N.Y.) Country Club as the Panthers finished fourth in the Hilbert Invitational with a 354. Gardner tied for 14th among 42 players from eight AMCC teams. Penn State Behrend won the title with a 314.
Gardner posted the low score for Pitt-Bradford in two of the six events he participated and was second or tied for second in three other tourneys.
He average 84.4 for seven rounds.

FOOTBALL
SHIPPENSBURG — Senior running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) accounted for 49 of Lock Haven’s 71 net rushing yards in Saturday’s 44-34 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division loss to Shippensburg with 2,043 fans on hand at Seth Grove Stadium.
Swales carried nine times, one a 36-yard jaunt, to pad his season totals to 80 carries for 455 yards, a 5.7 average. He has an additional 51 yards for seven pass receptions.
Lock Haven is 0-3 in the PSAC-East and 0-6 overall.

EDINBORO — Senior Eric White (Clearfield) snapped the ball a dozen times for Clarion specialty units Saturday when the Golden Eagles spoiled Edinboro’s Homecoming with a 36-23 victory at Sox Harrison Stadium.
A crowd of 4,819 saw the Golden Eagles improve to 6-0 for the first time since 1983 and retain a share of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division lead at 3-0.

GREENVILLE — Freshman linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) made his first start for Thiel in a 49-6 Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to Westminster in front of 1,213 fans at Alumni Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Maines has played in three games with one tackle for the Tomcats, who are 1-5 with four PAC defeats.
