CAMPAIGN 2016
Done: The first Democratic tussle of the 2016 election cycle is in the books. Let the spinning begin! So who won? Popular opinion is split between Hillary Clinton’s confident demeanor and Bernie Sanders’ passionate performance. Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee just seemed to be kind of there. Despite all of the on-stage fireworks last night, the polls probably won’t change much, and, more importantly, there was little to dissuade Joe Biden from getting in the race.
GUN SHOP LAWSUIT
Negligent: A Milwaukee gun shop was found negligent yesterday for selling a pistol to a man who shot two police officers. The jury awarded the officers a total of $5 million. The officers said personnel at the gun shop, Badger Guns, were negligent because it was obvious another man actually bought the gun for the shooter, who was too young to legally make such a purchase. It’s the second such case to make it to trial since passage of a 2005 federal law granting broad immunity to gun dealers and manufacturers.

Report: What ever happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 on July 17, 2014, it happened quickly. That’s one of the big headlines coming out of a Dutch report yesterday on the MH17 crash. The report said the plane crashed after a missile warhead exploded just outside the cockpit. The explosion left the passengers dazed or unconscious; it’s not clear if anyone died in midair, but no one could have survived when the plane hit the ground. The crash killed all 298 people aboard.
AUNT SUES NEPHEW
Family: Well, this is going to make for a weird Thanksgiving next month. A Connecticut jury ruled yesterday against a woman who had sued her then-8-year-old nephew after he knocked her to the ground with a “forceful greeting” at his birthday party four years ago (she suffered a fractured left arm). But the woman, Jennifer Connell, said she wasn’t gunning for her nephew (who’s actually her cousin’s son) with the lawsuit. Connell said it was “meant to be a simple homeowners insurance case,” but in Connecticut an individual, not an insurance company, had to be named as a defendant. Connell said she adores the boy and even took him Halloween costume shopping a few weeks ago.
PRESIDENTIAL WEDDING CRASHER
Knotted: You may think you have an awesome wedding day story, but you’ll be hard pressed to beat Stephanie and Brian Tobe’s nuptial tale. The couple were about to tie the knot at a California golf course when they had to deal with a particular wedding crasher: the President of the United States. President Obama was finishing up at the 18th hole, so the wedding waited for him. When he was done, instead of immediately starting the wedding, the soon-to-be newlyweds raced over to take a picture with the leader of the free world. If you can top that story, you’re lying.
