Willard W. “Bill” Nearhoof, 86, of East Liverpool, Ohio and formerly of Madera, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at Calcutta Healthcare Center.
Born April 22, 1929 in Madera, he was the son of the late Willard and Roxie (Thomson) Nearhoof.
He was a 1946 graduate of Bigler Township High School. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He worked for Borden Food and Sherwin Williams in Baltimore. He retired after 22 years with Montgomery Wards.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 28th Infantry Division in Germany and HQ 7604 Troop Command in Austria.
He married Peggy Shedlock in Baltimore, Md., on July 17, 1954.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Betteridge and her husband, Jack of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Constance Panzer and her husband, Robert, of Maryland; one son, Willard Nearhoof III and his wife, Catherine of Maryland; a grandson, Brandon Betteridge and his wife, Krista of Virginia; and a granddaughter, Jaime Backof and her husband, Jesse of Maryland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy (Shedlock) Nearhoof in 2009.
The family will receive friends 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Friday at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Madera, with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Fruit Hill Cemetery, Ansonville.
