CLEARFIELD – A penny saved has opened up the potential for additional improvement projects in Clearfield Borough.
At Thursday’s meeting, the Clearfield Borough Council discussed potential uses for funds left over from previous Community Development Block Grant projects.
Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott reported that the borough has money left over from the previous projects. She said if the borough ‘lumps’ those extra funds together, it would allow the borough to consider several additional projects.
Stott said CDBG funds can only be used for certain types of projects, and can only be used in low-to-moderate income areas of the borough. By combining the leftover money from 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, the borough would have $227,455.
She said some project ideas the council could consider include a streetscape project on Market Street from Front to Bridge streets; a streetscape project (to include stampcrete, curbing and sidewalks only) on Third Street from Pine to Market streets; a streetscape project (to include stampcrete, curbing and sidewalks only) on Locust Street from Third to Front streets; replacing the chain-link fencing along Upper Witmer Park and the rotting split-rail fence; or stormwater improvements along Clearfield Street.
President Wade Cowder suggested the council review the potential projects and come up with recommendations for discussion at the next work session.
