Hillary Clinton came to Rockefeller Center in New York on Wednesday to be interviewed by Jimmy Fallon. But for a short, scripted segment off the top of the show, the 2016 candidate was interviewed by GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
Sort of.
Fallon, sporting Trump’s iconic blonde swooping hair and using a solid gold phone, pretended to call Clinton after the CNN debate.
“I haven’t seen you since my last wedding,” Fallon as Trump told Clinton.
“I am sure I will see you at the next one,” Clinton responded.
Fallon’s Trump then said that because Fallon is such a “lightweight” he was going to do her a favor and interview her before Clinton sits down with the late night host.
“Great, you know how much I love doing interviews” Clinton said.
Fallon’s Trump then asked Clinton about her stance on women’s issue, noting that Clinton recently said Trump “insults” and “dismisses” women.
“I am curious, Donald, what is your stance on women’s issues?”
“Look, I know a lot of women and they all have issues,” Fallon’s Trump said.
The bit was just part of Clinton’s interview with Fallon, which will air tonight. NBC allowed journalists to watch the taping in the afternoon.
The Fallon interview is the latest chapter in an effort to soften Clinton’s image by giving interviews in entertainment settings. In the last two weeks Clinton has sat down with Ellen DeGeneres and Extra’s Mario Lopez.
Second question from Fallon’s Trump: How do you plan to get your message out?
Clinton said it was a “long campaign” but that she was “confident Americans will see I can deliver for them, that they can count on me for them and their families.”
Fallon’s Trump told Clinton that she “sounded like a robot.”
“You wanna win, here’s what you gotta do. First, yell. I yell all the time. In fact, this phone isn’t even plugged in,” Fallon’s Trump said. “Next, take three things everyone loves and say you hate them. Watch: Puppies, stupid. Rainbows, total losers. Fall foliage, tree puberty. Are you writing this down?”
“Hold on, let me grab my pen,” Clinton responded before grabbing a large glass of white wine while rolling her eyes.
Last question was about immigration: “Wall or giant wall,” Fallon’s Trump said.
Clinton said Trump was “trying to stop” immigrants from working hard and achieving their American Dream.
“Do you have any idea what it’s like to work so hard for something, to be so close to getting it, then someone pops out of nowhere and tries to take it all away,” Clinton asked.
“Are you talking about Bernie Sanders?” Fallon’s Trump asked. “I hate to say this, but I think he is losing his hair.”
Clinton responded: “At least he doesn’t have one strand that he twirls over his head like a soft serve at Dairy Queen.”
The two then dance out of the bit, with Clinton mostly just bobbing her shoulders to OMI’s “Cheerleader.”
