CLEARFIELD – An Ohio woman who swore at employees and threatened to blow up a Sheetz store was sentenced during plea and sentencing court.
Before he accepted the plea from Laurie Abbas, 41, of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Judge Fredric J. Ammerman asked her not to return to Clearfield County.
He then sentenced her to 30 days to one year in jail and one year consecutive probation for terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. She was fined $535 plus costs. She was ordered to complete an anger management program.
The charges stem from an incident at a Sheetz store in DuBois on April 7. According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called to the store because a customer was threatening employees. When officers asked Abbas what was going on and she claimed she was being ripped off on gas.
As they spoke with Abbas she started to yell and threaten the officers, saying if they came near her, she would kill them. She also screamed about the employees in the store.
A male witness told police he was in the store when Abbas started yelling loud obscenities and threatening to blow the store up.
She singled out an African-American employee and called her several vulgar names. She also threatened to kill this employee.
The store manager told police that Abbas came in the store yelling that the gas pump was not working. She then started screaming at employees. She told the manager, “tell her (the employee) that she is as good as dead.”
The employees were all very scared of this woman because they were didn’t know what she was going to do next.
The employee she singled out had not spoken to Abbas, but had only tried to reassure another employee that everything would be OK. This turned Abbas’ attention to the employee who she attacked with racist words and threatened to assault her.
When police spoke again with Abbas she explained she got upset with the store for not giving her the gas she was supposed to get. She said she was mad at the one employee for smiling at her as she yelled.
Abbas said, “I was going to jump over the counter and take her.”
