The man suspected in the shooting death of a Kentucky state trooper has been arrested. Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks is in custody, according to the official Lyons County, Kentucky, Facebook page.
Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder died late Sunday at a hospital after he was shot along Interstate 24 in western Kentucky. Johnson-Shanks, 25 and from Missouri, fled the scene on foot after firing multiple times at Ponder, authorities said.
The trooper had tried to pull Johnson-Shanks over and he drove away, police said. Ponder pursued for 9 miles before both cars came to a stop and the shooting started.
