How Neat Is That?

Come find the park naturalist Friday as he traverses the campground with his wagon full of neat nature stuff to explain why nature is the way that it is, so that you can learn how neat nature is too.
Corner Concert Series
Downtown Clearfield
A local modern country band, Dirtkicker, will play for the Corner Concert Series in downtown Clearfield on Sept. 4.
DirtKicker will start at 7 p.m. and play until approximately 9 p.m. at the Shaw Park in downtown Clearfield.
This summer the Corner Concert Series benefits the Special Olympics of Clearfield County.

A farmer’s market will be held every Saturday through October from 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. It is held at the corner of Brady Street and Long Avenue in downtown DuBois and sponsored by the Downtown DuBois Revitalization Group.
Golf Tournament for American Heroes
DuBois Country Club
A golf tournament for American Heroes will be held Saturday at the DuBois Country Club. Registration will take place from 7:30 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Please contact 814-371-0630 for more information.
Drive to Blackwell Splash Dam

Blackwell Dam was the next splash dam downstream from Parker Dam, and there are still traces of the operation to see. We’ll also explore the Laurel Run Lumber Co. sawmill site. Carpooling is encouraged; about three miles.
Annual Groundhog Club Picnic, Phil Phest

The annual Groundhog Club picnic and Phil Phest will be held Saturday at Gobbler’s Knob. It will take place from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. Advance tickets are $20; tickets will be $25 at the gate.
Log Drive
2 p.m. Parker Dam Beach
Bring your beach buckets to help haul water for our scaled-down splash dam on the beach. Learn about how folks used to move logs before logging trucks. We will drive our miniature logs to the boom at the lake shore.
Beaver Dam Trail
4 p.m. Parker Dam Beach House
Travel through varying habitats where you may see signs of diverse wildlife. Part of the trail follows a historic railroad grade; learn a bit about the park’s history along the way. This two-mile loop covers easy terrain.
Sunset at Laurel Winery
You can enjoy the sights and sounds of summer in the picnic pavilion at Laurel Winery. The cost is $5 per person and catered food is available at an additional cost. Music will be provided Saturday by Bad Hair Day at 7 p.m.
The Pennsylvania Forest
8 p.m. Parker Dam Campground Amphitheater
Join us as we look into Pennsylvania’s historic forests through the eyes of Jim Nelson, former Director of the state’s Bureau of Forestry. Jim accurately depicts an encouraging tale of Pennsylvania heritage for the viewer.
Coalport Flea/Farmer’s Market
The flea/farmer’s market will be open the first Saturday through October. Both markets are held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Beechwood Park in Coalport; set up will begin at 6:30 a.m.
The flea market space is $15 per month. If you set up all six months, the cost for space is $50; you will get your first month free.
The farmer’s market spaces are limited to food products and plants; you provide your own tables, chairs, etc. The space costs $10 per vendor per day. If you sign up for all five months, it is $40; your first month is free.

Woodhick Games
Parker Dam
Come test your traditional Woodhick skills against other amateur woodhicks in: cross-cut sawing, log rolling, shoe pitching, seed spitting, doo-doo dropping, and hatchet slinging. Best score will win you an event; best overall score will give you the coveted title of Woodhick or Woodchick of the Year. There’s even a Junior division (12 and under). Register at the table in the picnic grove above the Cabin Road so that you can participate in the Woodhick Games.
Car Show
Treasure Lake
A car show will be held Sunday at Treasure Lake; in case of rain, it will be held Monday. Trophies will be awarded to the first- and second-place entries in 23 different classes. Log Birling Demonstration
5 p.m. Parker Dam, lake shore
When driving logs downriver, balance was a skill you must possess, or face deadly consequences. The stakes aren’t as high, but bragging rights are on the line when woodhicks face off in the sport of birling. Come watch and cheer them on.
End of Summer Bash
Treasure Lake
An End of Summer bash will be held Sunday at Treasure Lake. There will be festive food, tropical drinks and fun. The event is open to the public; gates will open at 6 p.m. Attendees who are over 21 years of age are welcome to join the bash from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Admission is $5 each; parking is also $5. Outside food, coolers, etc. are not permitted at the bash.
