CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way has wrapped up its most recent initiative, Jeans for Teens.
The CAUW has coordinated the Jeans for Teens project for the past 12 years. It was assisted by Kurtz Bros., with helping area teenagers receive new school clothes.
Board member Brenda Terry commented, “No more calls are being accepted for this year. The program is over now and will not be done until next fall, as the United Way accepts a limited list of participants from agencies.
“However, the United Way is in need of donations to enable this important and self-esteem building program to continue.”
Individuals can still make a donation to help this once-a-year project continue in the future. Please make checks payable to the Clearfield Area United Way, 18 N. Second St., P.O. Box 1430, Clearfield, PA 16830 with “Jeans for Teens” written in the memo line.
The United Way worked with area agencies, churches and department stores as part of the project. “Teens have to wear presentable clothing to school on a daily basis, and some of their parents just can’t afford it. Feeling accepted, getting along with peers and having a positive self-esteem are all essential to kids, and at this middle and high school age, how you look and dress can mean so much,” explained Terry.
According to Terry, agencies help the CAUW to identify the teens who are most in need of new school clothing. Through a special partnership, she said the CAUW was able to give each $100 for new clothes this year.
“We appreciate JCPenney and Wal-Mart for giving extra goodies to enable the total purchase to be even more,” she said. “We thank Store Manager Philip Kopach and Rhonda Hamilton from JCPenney and Josh Kunkle and Jake and Jami from Wal-Mart for making everything go so smoothly.”
