Clearfield—Todd and Brenda Orsich along with Sherry Glace will once again be making a special walk up Rockton Mountain and over to Hummingbird Speedway
this Friday and Saturday (September 4 & 5) to raise funds for the Hahne Cancer Center in DuBois, PA. The walk is in memory of Mick Orsich who was the track’s manager and flagman at the speedway until his passing on September 21, 2004.
The group will start its ninth walk in Clearfield on Friday morning and make the four mile walk up Rockton Mountain. They will then ride from the Penn Dot shed located on top of the mountain the rest of the way to DuBois. “ We decided to change things up last year, and ride the rest of the way as we are getting a little older, and 20 miles of walking usually wiped us out for the next day” Todd Orsich said.
The group will pick up where the left off on Saturday afternoon at Sheetz in downtown DuBois, and will walk the rest of the way to the track located between Falls Creek and Reynoldsville. The total of the journey is estimated at 28 miles.
The speedway will hold the 10th annual Mick Orsich memorial race on September 19 with a rain date set for September 26. Gates will open at 3:30pm with racing at 6 for the five-division program. The highlight race of the night will be a 35-lap main event for late models. There will also be a special king of the hill race for the late models this evening.
