VANCOUVER, B.C. — Chad Zurat of Clearfield faced one batter in the bottom of the fifth inning and wound up the winning pitcher when the Boise Hawks scored three runs in the top of the sixth to defeat the Vancouver Canadians 5-2 in front of 6,013 fans at Nat Bailey Stadium Wednesday night.
The Hawks (26-40) improved to 12-16 in the second half of the Class A Short Season Northwest League with their third consecutive victory.
Zurat made his second appearance for the Hawks after the Canadians had knotted the score at 2-2 and had a runner at first base who promptly advanced to third via a stolen base and an error.
Zurat induced a groundout to extend his streak of scoreless innings to 9.2 in his last five appearances for Grand Junction (Pioneer Rookie League) and Boise.
He is 4-3 overall in his second minor league season with a 3.77 earned run average for 43 innings pitched in 17 outings.
Opponents have totaled 50 hits and 25 runs, with 18 earned.
Zurat has logged 17 strikeouts, walked 16 batters and hit three.
