BELLEFONTE – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) has announced the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded the University Park Airport more than $1.4 million in grant funding in order to rehabilitate the runway’s apron, or the area where airplanes are parked, fueled, maintained and boarded.
“This funding is part of a much larger project to maintain and rehabilitate the University Park Airport’s facilities, making sure it is kept up-to-date with FAA standards,” Thompson said. “I commend the airport staff for their vision and hard work to ensure the airport serves our region for generations to come.”
The grant funding from the FAA will be used in phase five of seven in the restoration of the nearly 400,000 square yard apron area. Related projects include the extension of taxiways, updates to utility infrastructure and the construction of new vehicle parking lots at the airport.
“On behalf of the University Park Airport, I would like to thank Congressman Thompson for his continued support,” said University Park Airport Director Bryan Rodgers. “The revitalization of the general aviation apron is a key part of our Sustainable Airport Master Plan. Federal support is vital to the implementation of this plan, and to maintaining our competitiveness in the region and Commonwealth.”
