Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump lamented the global stock market turmoil Monday morning — when the Dow plummeted 1,000 points at open — saying it’s an example of how the United States is too closely tied to China.
“As I have long stated, we are so tied in with China and Asia that their markets are now taking the U.S. market down. Get smart U.S.A.” Trump tweeted.
He added in a separate Tweet: “Markets are crashing – all caused by poor planning and allowing China and Asia to dictate the agenda. This could get very messy! Vote Trump.”
Even before he launched his presidential bid earlier this year, Trump has long pointed to China as an economic foe for the country, accusing China of taking American jobs and slamming government policies including currency manipulation.
