CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners have proclaimed Sunday, Aug. 16 as “Keep the Spirit of 45 Alive” Day in Clearfield County.
The commissioners have joined the nationwide celebration to recognize the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
According to the commissioners’ proclamation, in 2010, Congress voted unanimously for a national “Spirit of 45 Day” to honor the legacy of service of the World War II generation.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II in 2015, several major events and activities are being organized across the United States for Aug. 14-16.
“To honor the fallen of World War II, the brave 405,399 sons and daughters the United States lost in World War II (including 78,979 MIA) and now, to date, nearly 90 percent of the more than 16 million brave Americans who served and who have now passed away into history,” reads the commissioners’ proclamation.
“…In doing this, we give special gratitude to the men and women who made up America’s greatest generation and express extreme sorrow that so many have now passed.”
