Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush jumped on the trend of offering cheeky, self-referential clothes and knick-knacks through his online store Wednesday morning — including a shirt paying tribute to his father.
The “My Dad” tee, offered for $25, is emblazoned with the quote, “My dad is the greatest man I’ve ever known, and if you don’t think so, we can step outside,” obviously referring to Bush’s father, former President George H.W. Bush. Bush referenced the shirt in one of the more colorful moments coming from a New Hampshire forum earlier this week.
“My dad is probably the most perfect man alive, so it’s very hard for me to be critical of him,” Bush said Monday, struggling to respond to a question about how he would be a different president than his father or brother. “In fact, I got a T-Shirt at the, ah, Jeb swag store that says, ah, um, ‘My dad’s the greatest man alive. If you don’t like it, I’ll take you outside.'”
The online offerings from the Bush campaign include standard “Jeb!” campaign buttons, water bottles and bumper stickers, but also some tongue-in-cheek items including a $75 “Gauca Bowle” — marketed with a warning to not include peas in guacamole.
Another offering was plugged in a newly released online video in the #JebNoFilter series catering to the Instagram crowd. Bush surveys the “Vintage Tank,” a white tank top bearing a photo of a ’70s-era Bush sporting side burns and shaggy hair.
Presented with the tank top in the video, Bush exclaimed, “That’s me!”
Asked if he would wear it, he returned an emphatic “no.”
Candidates have fully jumped onto the 2016 products bandwagon this cycle, including a “Grillary Clinton” apron and “Everyday Pantsuit” tee from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton campaign and a “Hillary’s Hard Drive” offering and an “NSA Knows” tee from Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul’s campaign.
