CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.
Shaw identified the fugitive as Melanie Hartman, 23, of Forcey Road, Woodland. Hartman was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on June 22.
On July 14, 2014, Patrolman Nathan Curry of the Clearfield Borough Police Department filed a criminal complaint against Hartman. He charged Hartman with access device fraud, M1, and receiving stolen property, M1.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on July 5, 2014, Clearfield Borough police were dispatched for an alleged theft from a motor vehicle. The victim alleged to police that someone had removed cash and a wallet containing a check card and other personal items.
Upon investigation police determined that Hartman, along with other individuals, allegedly used the victim’s check card to make several purchases. Police also determined that they were declined in other attempted purchases.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 23, 2014, at which time the charges were held to court. On Sept. 23, 2014, Hartman failed to appear at Plea and Sentencing Court.
Shaw stated that Hartman was apprehended by police in Cumberland County and turned over to deputies of the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office on July 30. Hartman is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
