CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Fair will soon be here and with it comes the Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre (CAST) with its Most Beautiful Baby Contest.
As always, the Most Beautiful Baby Contest booth will be in the Expo 2 Building. The CAST is the area’s well-known, non-profit entertainment center. It presents year-round live theatre, special entertainment events and lessons in music and dance.
The CAST’s Most Beautiful Baby Contest is open to all babies ages birth to 36 months and they must be entered in the contest by a parent, grandparent or legal guardian. The registration fee is $3 payable at registry.
Those entering a baby in the contest are asked to decorate a can (an 11-ounce coffee can or similar size). It can be “tastefully” decorated and complete with the baby’s photo(s) and name.
The parents’ names can be on the can if so wished and grandparents’ names, as well. Twins are entered individually and each must have a can.
The can should have a slot cut in the lid, so that the vote money can be dropped into it. The money is taken out of each can at night, counted and recorded, so it is important that the lid can be taken off without harming the decorations.
Cans aren’t permitted to be decorated with photos on sticks, photos sticking out or photos higher than the cans. These cans will not be accepted to the contest.
There can be money in the can when the baby is registered for the contest. There are times when out-of-town relatives want to vote and help their favorite baby win.
Both bills and coins can be put in the can. Checks are welcome also and should be made payable to the CAST.
The contest will end at 8 p.m. Aug. 8. At that time, the cans will be emptied and the money slots will be taped.
CAST volunteers will then tally the vote money, return to the park and give the winning babies’ names to WOKW to announce on-air.
Also, CAST volunteers will post the winning names on the door at Expo 2 Building. The parents of the winning babies are notified, and it will be announced in other local media.
Once the slots are taped, parents can take the cans if they wish. Otherwise, parents can pick up their can at the CAST side door until Aug. 14.
First, second and third place winners each receive a beautiful engraved trophy and the winning babies and their parents will be called in to the CAST Building for a photo and trophy presentation.
The winners’ names will run on the CAST marquee, and the photo will be in the display case on the front of the building.
Babies can be registered for the contest at the CAST Building at 112 E. Locust St. in downtown Clearfield beginning immediately Monday through Friday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Also, CAST volunteers will be in the Expo II Building setting up their Most Beautiful Baby Contest Booth on Aug. 2 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. and will be registering babies for the contest at that time.
All proceeds from the Most Beautiful Baby Contest help the CAST continue its many entertainment programs. CAST volunteers have no part in determining the winners. Winners are determined by the collected vote money.
