CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way has made it easier for people to get help with prescription medications, according to Nancy Pinto of the United Way.
Pinto said that the CAUW has received an award from the FamilyWize Community Service Partnership. She noted that nearly $30,000 has been saved by area individuals and families.
“However, there are still many more people whose health is endangered because their prescriptions are too expensive and they are not getting the medicines they need,” explained Pinto.
She said when someone gets a free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card they need only show it to an area pharmacist. She said they will automatically apply the discount to the cost of medicine.
“And, the savings can be on average of 30 percent off of name brands and 75 percent off of generics. The card is good nationwide and re-useable,” said Pinto.
The CAUW has hundreds of cards to distribute to area families, individuals and seniors who may benefit from the savings. The FamilyWize Web site has been updated and is www.familywize.org for anyone with computer access.
“Or you can go to clearfieldareaunitedway.org and print your own card,” said Pinto, adding that people can also get a free card by texting the word “family” to 700700. “You will get a Discount Card sent to your cell phone for you to show at the pharmacy.”
Pinto has sent discount cards to United Way member agencies, the local food bank and other organizations that would like to distribute them. She said the discount cards are also being distributed to physician’s offices, pharmacies, churches, etc., and anyone can call the United Way at 814-765-6521 for a discount card.
“CAUW received a framed Community Partnership Award at our office, so that people who support the United Way can see the great work being done to advance the common good in the area of health in these communities. More than 1,000 United Ways are participating nationwide with FamilyWize,” Pinto said.
