Zimm, a 3-year-old monkey from the Memphis Zoo, “announced” her prison break Thursday on Twitter, taunting her former captors.
Zimm escaped from her enclosure late in the afternoon, immediately taking refuge in the zoo’s drain system, according to Memphis Zoo spokesperson Laura Doty.

Zimm is following in the footsteps of the escaped Bronx Zoo’s cobra from 2011. The cobra first escaped and then chronicled its ensuing exploits while free.
Despite similar stories, Zimm hasn’t gained quite the same traction: In less than a day, Zimm’s Twitter account has amassed almost 900 followers as the monkey remains on the lam, compared to the 75,000 followers the cobra earned in its first four days.
For the most part, Zimm has been posting links to other tweets or media stories about her, but she still took the time to educate the public about her favorite sport. It appears Zimm is a big fan of the USA Women’s Soccer Team, tweeting at recent Golden Ball award winner Carli Lloyd:

For now, Zimm remains in the drain. Doty said the culvert system is large but contained within the zoo, and zoo staff are moving through it systematically to recapture the fugitive simian.
“I think she just wanted to enjoy the beautiful day with the rest of our guests.”
