OREM, Utah — Chad Zurat of Clearfield gave up his first earned run of the season in Grand Junction’s 6-5 loss to the Orem Owlz with a crowd of 1, 987 on hand at Brent Brown Ballpark Thursday night.
The loss dropped the Rockies (8-7) three games behind the Owlz (11-4) in the South Division of the Class A Short-Season Pioneer League.
With the Rockies down 5-3, Zurat worked the eighth inning and surrendered one hit, one walk and what proved to be the winning run.
His earned run average jumped to 0.68, still tops among Pioneer League pitchers with a minimum of .8 innings per team game.
Zurat (1-0) has appeared in five games, pitching 13.1 innings and allowing 17 hits, six runs and two walks. He has six strikeouts.
