CLEARFIELD-A Houtzdale man has been charged with breaking into a local bar.
Remington Chadwick Scott, 25, 206 Brisbin St., Houtzdale, is charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and loitering and prowling at nighttime. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court. He is free on $25,000, unsecured bail.
The charges stem from an incident in Houtzdale on May 27. According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were called to the Remedy Bar on Hannah Street in Houtzdale to investigate a theft. An employee told police there was $400 missing from the cash register drawer. She said the drawer is hidden after closing time and is placed back in the register the next day when the bar opens. The employee who closed the business the night before had followed these procedures.
An officer noticed fresh scratch marks on the wooden door and door knob that indicated that an unknown person had entered the rear side door by shimming the latch. Police checked the security cameras of a nearby business and found footage of Scott walking up and down the alley at 2:30 a.m.
When he was questioned by police, Scott admitted to breaking into the bar that night and taking $400 from the drawer he found in the rear room.
