Walter Dean McCracken, 83, of Lumber City, passed away Wednesday evening June 24, 2015 at the Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Born October 15, 1931 in Lumber City, he was the son of Walter R. and Kathryn (Smith) McCracken. Mr. McCracken was retired as a Foreman/Supervisor in the Tonawanda School System. He was a US Naval Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Clearfield First Baptist Church, was an inventor and outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
On October 15, 1956 in Clearfield, he wed the former Dorothy Bailey who survives along with three children. Wendy McCracken Wenger and husband Lynn of Mooresville, NC, Pamela McCracken Catipovic and husband Robert of Grand Island, NY, and Jeffrey Dean McCracken and wife Cristy of Smithsburg, MD.
Also surviving are 7 grandchildren 2 brothers and a sister, Richard McCracken and Fred McCracken and wife Linda both of Lumber City and Betty Aughenbaugh of Philipsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald McCracken.
At the request of the family there will be no public visitation.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Reverend Robert G. Achey officiating. Interment will be in the Lumber City Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
