Conservative activists, Republican hopeful Rick Santorum and others were shepherded from Faith and Freedom Coalition convention in Washington after a threat was called in Friday afternoon.
Ralph Reed, Faith and Freedom Coaliton Founder, came on stage right at the end of Santorum’s campaign speech Friday to announce that a threat had been called in. Staff and security quickly began moving activists from the main convention room.
“We have received a threat about the safety of this event and this room,” Reed told the crowd, adding later “We don’t want anything to happen to anyone in this room.”
Reed said there was one speaker remaining — former New York Gov. George Pataki, also a presidential contender. He gave his speech in a separate room in the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Northwest D.C., where the convention was being held. Only part of the hotel was evacuated.
Additional details related to the threat were not immediately available Friday afternoon.
