Spring Mills – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is advising drivers that a detour is in place as rehabilitation work gets underway on a bridge along Route 2012 (Penns Cave Road) in Gregg Township, Centre County.
The bridge was closed recently and signage is in place for the detour. PennDOT’s official detour directs drivers to use Routes 192, 144, 45, and Route 2012. Drivers familiar with the area may choose to use alternate routes.
C H and D Enterprises of New Stanton, PA is the contractor on this $480,000 thousand project. Overall work includes replacement of the super-structure of the current bridge, roadway paving, drainage improvements and guide rail updates. The superstructure includes bridge beams, bridge deck, sidewalk and parapets.
The 54-foot bridge spans Penns Creek, northwest of the village of Spring Mills. It was originally built in 1951 and carries an average of almost 300 vehicles daily. Once rehabilitation work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list.
PennDOT expects the new bridge to be open by September, with work completing by late October. Adhering to the construction schedule will allow PennDOT to open the bridge to traffic prior to the fall antique machinery show but drivers are encouraged to use Route 192 to access the machinery show.
