CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors are looking to revamp an agreement for fire protection dating back to the mid-1970s.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Solicitor James Naddeo updated the supervisors on a request from the fire department to review an agreement between Lawrence Township and Boggs Township for fire protection.
Naddeo said he only found one previous agreement between the two municipalities, dating back to 1976. The agreement dictated that Lawrence Township provide fire protection to Boggs Township at the price of $25 per fire. Naddeo also said that agreement was only good for one year following its initial acceptance by both municipalities.
Secretary Barb Shaffner said the township has not received any type of payment from Boggs Township.
Naddeo and that the township has an ordinance in place that allows the township to bill the insurance companies of any individual or business if a fire is caused by negligence.
Fire Department Member Randy Powell said the Glen Richey Fire Company is still providing fire coverage for parts of Boggs Township, but the majority of the area is covered by fire companies out of the Philipsburg area.
Naddeo said since the agreement is so old and has expired so long ago, it would be up to the supervisors to determine what to do.
The supervisors suggested meeting with the Glen Richey Fire Company and Boggs Township to discuss what to do about the coverage and any potential agreements.
