Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors won game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night, and so did ABC.
The Warrior’s 108-100 victory over LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers pulled a 12.9 in preliminary overnight ratings, according to Nielsen.
This makes Thursday night’s match-up between two of the biggest stars in the NBA the highest-rated game 1 in ABC’s history.
The rating was also up 24 percent from last year’s game 1 rating.
Game 1 was also a huge draw in the two hometown markets of the teams, particularly in Cleveland where an average of 41.4% of Cleveland homes were tuned into the game.
The hometown of the Warriors, San Francisco, (the Warriors play at the Oracle Arena in neighboring Oakland) pulled a 28.9 rating.
More complete ratings will be released later in the day.
