Nicholas Shirokey, 81, of Morrisdale died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at his residence. Born Dec. 21, 1933, he was the son of Walter and Mary A. Susko Shirokey.
Mr. Shirokey attended the Palestine United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War; he served in the U.S. Army.
He was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Shirokey Surveys until the time of his death. He was a graduate of the Morris Township High School.
He was married to Mary Jean Turner Shirokey on Aug. 25, 1956 at the Centre Hill United Methodist Church. She survives in Morrisdale.
Mr. Shirokey is survived by a daughter, Mary Katherine (Kate) Baumgardner and her husband, Tim of Lanse and three sons, David Shirokey and his wife, Barbara and William J. (Bill) Shirokey, both of Morrisdale, and Nicholas D Shirokey and his wife, Valerie of Munson.
He is survived by three sisters, Velma Glenn and Theresa Shirokey, both of Huntingdon, and Mildred Kasubick of Houtzdale and one brother, Alex Shirokey of Sykesville.
He is survived by eight grandchildren, Kori Sue Plotner and her companion, Vince Huln, Eric David Shirokey and his companion, Brandie Fox, Rebecca Ann Caylor and her husband, Charles, Kyle A. Baumgardner, Penny Shirokey and her companion, Bill Jones, Kayla Blose and her husband, Craig, Lindsey Albright and her husband, Aaron and Cody Lee and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Shirokey was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Allgood and Jean Kurtz; two brothers, Walter Shirokey and John Shirokey; four half-sisters, Mary Ratkiewiecz, Ann Tomkiewicz, Helen Davis and Irene Chervenak and two half-brothers, Joe Shirokey and Mike Shirokey.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, Allport, with Pastor Tina Hawkins officiating.
Burial will be in the Centre Hill United Methodist Cemetery, Morrisdale.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 .m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
