Detour to be extended; new bridge to be opened to traffic
CLEARFIELD –The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is advising drivers of changes coming to its Shawville Bridge project on Route 970. Drivers should expect the following changes:
- A detour has been in place since late April due to slope excavation, roadway re-alignment and roadway reconstruction along Route 879 in Shawville. With that work continuing, the detour will remain in effect through June 19. PennDOT originally expected to lift the detour June 3. The detour makes use of Route 879, Interstate 80 and Route 970. Signage is in place to alert motorists to the detour.
- The new bridge, located upstream from the existing one, will be open to traffic May 29. Once the new bridge is open, PennDOT will close the old truss bridge and begin demolition. Final paving on the new bridge and approaches will take place later this summer.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $5 million project. All work is weather and schedule dependent. The project is expected to finish later this summer.
