HARRISBURG – Red Cross volunteers Bill Roach, Robin Butler, Howard Jackson and Travis Woodyard are on their way to Texas to assist with the Red Cross Disaster relief effort for those displaced by the floods. These volunteers will be deployed for up to three weeks.
The Red Cross is at work helping those affected by historic storms and flooding throughout Texas and Oklahoma. On Monday Texas saw the latest in a string of severe weather to hit the region since early May.
In that time, thanks to support, Red Cross workers have opened 30 shelters, served more than 23,000 meals and snacks, and handed out 31,000 disaster relief items to affected communities.
“Our first priority in flooding is to provide shelter and food for people in the immediate area until the waters recede and recovery can begin,” said Ellen Kyzer, regional chief executive officer for American Red Cross Serving Central PA “The help we give depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public.”
