PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP – DuBois-based state police say a Punxsutawney man was killed Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 80 east at mile-marker 84 in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.
According to state police, around 2:23 p.m., 67-year-old Russell R. Knarr of Punxsutawney was traveling east on I-80 in the left lane. While rounding a slight curve in the roadway, for an unknown reason, his 2002 Honda Goldwing abruptly swerved to the left.
The motorcycle traveled onto the north berm of the road, and the front of it struck the guiderails. Knarr was thrown off the motorcycle and traveled 50 feet into the medial before coming to rest, state police say.
The motorcycle slid south, back onto the roadway, and traveled 54 feet before coming to a rest on its right side, facing west in the left travel lane, according to state police.
Knarr was transported to Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital where he was pronounced dead, state police say.
Pine Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
