Singer Charice broke into the music industry as a Filipina girly-girl who impressed Oprah so much that the queen of all media linked her with superstar Celine Dion for an amazing Madison Square Garden performance.
These days, the performer — who also appeared on “Glee” — is sporting a very different look and says she is now her authentic self.
Charice, who was born Charmaine Pempengco, came out as a lesbian in 2013 and has recently been sharing social media photos of herself with a more masculine look. Gone are the shoulder-length hair and dresses; she is now sporting a shorter haircut and tattoos.
“Basically, my soul is like male,” the 22-year-old told Winfrey in 2014 in an interview on OWN’s “Oprah: Where Are They Now.” “But I’m not going to go through that stage where I change everything.”
Two months ago, the singer posted a note on Instagram that spoke of her struggle to be herself and let fans know “This is the person you will see every day ’till we all die.”
Fans praised Charice for her actions, including singer Josh Groban, who tweeted his support.
