The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was investigating a possible explosive device on a train, Lt. Lester Trull told CNN on Wednesday.
A conductor on a Union Pacific freight train stopped the train after finding what appeared to be a homemade bomb attached to one of the cars.
The conductor described the device as an “IED,” Trull said. The nature of the device has not been verified.
The train wasn’t hauling any explosives or hazardous material, an official with the the Federal Railroad Administration told CNN.
CNN affiliate KTLA reported the train was stopped in Sylmar, near Interstate 5 and Interstate 210.
