BROOKVILLE – On Monday U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a federal grant in the amount of $8,078,900 to Brookville Municipal Authority in Brookville.
“I am very pleased that Brookville has been awarded funds to replace the outdated municipal wastewater treatment facility,” said Thompson.
“This grant, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will allow the municipal authority to improve the water and wastewater services that serve households and businesses, allowing Brookville and Jefferson County to promote greater economic growth in our community,” Thompson added.
“Brookville Municipal Authority is extremely grateful to have received this federal funding—a grant of $8 million and a loan of $9.7 million,” said Dana Shick, administrative manager, Brookville Municipal Authority.
“It is quite the honor and a great opportunity to help Brookville Borough, Pinecreek Township, Rose Township and Knox Township. It will go towards the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility and upgrading the lines and conveyance system to expand upon the coverage area in hopes to promote additional manufacturing/industrial growth in the area.
“We would just like to thank our engineers, USDA, and any other parties involved in helping make this happen,” added Shick.
Rural Development funds will be used to replace the aged wastewater treatment plant and make collection system improvements to comply with state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) consent order and agreement and to meet the more stringent monitoring and discharge criteria for nitrogen and phosphorus removal.
This project upgrade will allow the system to handle overflows during wet weather and provide an increased level of protection to area waterways. This system currently serves 2,350 existing customers in Brookville Borough, Knox Township, Pinecreek Township and Rose Township.
