HYDE — Any momentum the playoff-bound Clearfield Area High School softball team generated with Wednesday’s big comeback victory over Curwensville went bye-bye at the Bison Sports Complex Thursday.
The Bradford Lady Owls stunned the Lady Bison 7-6 in the non-league game for only their second win in 19 games.
So, Clearfield will take a 7-13 record into the District 9 Class AAA semifinal against No. 2 seed Punxsutawney Wednesday. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at Harry Noerr Field.
The Lady Bison were limited to five hits by Kaylee Brown after piling up 13 in their 16-8 win over the Lady Tide the previous day.
Brittani Priester singled and homered, her hard grounder past shortstop that rolled to deep left center field putting the Lady Bison in front for the second time, 4-3, in the third inning.
Bradford got that run back in the fourth on Ashley Stoltz’s two-out double and then struck for three runs in the fifth to pin the loss on freshman Abby Fedder in her first start.
Rylee Lundgren walked, stole second and, after Makayla Belser singled, scored on an error. Bryn Manion tripled to right center for another run. Raeleigh Redden relieved Fedder and registered a strikeout, but Mary Schroll bounced a single through the middle for what proved to be the winning run.
Clearfield got close when Redden tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the lower fifth and three errors provided another marker in the sixth.
Fedder almost won it for the Lady Bison in the seventh, but centerfielder Sam Gross leaped high to snare her line drive with Makayla Ross aboard on a forceout.
Clearfield led 3-2 after one inning on a walk, infield hits by Ross and Priester and two Bradford misplays but never could break out against Brown, who fanned two and walked two.
Fedder allowed five hits and five earned runs. She had three strikeouts and three walks.
Redden gave the Lady Bison a chance by holding the Lady Owls scoreless over the last 2-2/3 innings while whiffing three.
