ALTOONA — The Clearfield Area High School softball team out-hit Altoona 14-10, but the Lady Lions capitalized on every one of the Lady Bison’s six errors to eke out a 9-8 win in eight innings at the Logan Elementary School Field Tuesday afternoon.
Alyson Adams, aboard on a forceout after a Lady Bison misplay, scored the game-winner all the way from first base on a one-out double by Montana Feathers.
Altoona (6-11) had only three earned runs off Raeleigh Redden, who struck out five and walked two.
Clearfield’s attack was paced by two freshmen, Aspen Bishop with two doubles and a single and Makayla Ross with three singles.
Sophomore Brittani Priester and junior Karlie Lewis added two singles apiece.
Big innings gave the Lady Bison the lead on two occasions.
They went up 3-2 in the second when Redden and Abby Fedder singled home runs and Redden scored on an error.
In the fifth, consecutive hits by Bishop, Nikki Brossard and Lewis touched off a rally that put the Lady Bison in front 8-7. Redden logged her second RBI with a groundout before Brooke Cline, Priester and Ross delivered run-scoring hits.
Altoona got the equalizer in the bottom of the frame on a two-out miscue and Bethany Kudlaweic’s double.
Feathers starred for the Lady Lions with four hits, two of them doubles, and two RBIs. Andrea Parrish drove in three runs with a solo homer and a single.
With six walks, one hit batsmen and two batters reaching on errors to go with their second highest hit total of the season, the Lady Bison had runners in scoring position in every inning except the fourth but wound up stranding 14.
Clearfield (6-12) will be at home for back-to-back non-league games against Curwensville Wednesday and Bradford Thursday.
