PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney defeated Clearfield 8-1 in a girls softball duel between District 9 Class AAA rivals with identical records at Harry Noerr Field Friday afternoon.
Both teams were 5-7 for their annual regular season game, but Lady Chuck Alli Ishman made it one-sided by shutting out the Lady Bison for six innings and finishing with a five-hitter. She had two strikeouts and no walks.
Karlie Lewis had two hits in the Lady Bison’s first non-league outing and drove in their run with a seventh-inning single after Abby Fedder led off with a hit and advanced into scoring position on an error.
Raeleigh Redden was the losing hurler, giving up 12 hits and six earned runs while striking out four and walking two.
Anna Horner, Morgan Adamson and Sam Satterlee led the Lady Chuck attack with pairs of hits. Satterlee, Shaina Painter and Amber Ward drove in two runs apiece.
Clearfield has another non-league game against Glendale at Flinton Monday before wrapping up the Mountain League slate by hosting Penns Valley Tuesday and going on the road to play Philipsburg-Osceola Thursday.
