Charlene J. Thompson, 83, of Clearfield died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at her home.
Born April 4, 1932 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Orin and Edna Baughman Henchbarger. Her parents preceded her in death along with an infant brother, Wilbur.
A 1953 graduate of the former Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing, Mrs. Thompson retired in 1999 from the former Clearfield Hospital. She worked there primarily in the emergency department.
She was a member of the Centre Grove United Methodist Church and the Clearfield Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.
For many years, Mrs. Thompson was a volunteer for first aid at the Clearfield County Fair, first for the American Red Cross and then for the Clearfield County Fair & Park Board. For much of that time, she was head of the first aid department.
She is survived by her husband, F. Clair Thompson to whom she was married Nov. 17, 1951 in Baltimore, Md.; her daughters, Pamela Gabel and her husband, William of Pleasant Valley and Susan Thompson of Clearfield; and her sons, Daniel Thompson of Clearfield and Michael Thompson of Montrose, Colo.
She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Craig and Suzanne Gabel and their children, Hannah and David; Kristen and John Lanich and their children, Khloe and Brody; Erin and Taylor Thomas and their children, Lydia and Noah-Leigh; and Ryan and Sarah Gabel; Michael Andrew and Jackie Thompson and their son, Nolan Carter, and Sara Thompson.
Also surviving are Lindsey and Steven Maclay and their children, Callie, Lucy, Addy and Collin; Kelsey Lines and her fiancé, Andrew Barndt; and Jensen and Jonmarie Maines.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Centre Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Drs. Randy Willis and G. Edwin Zeiders officiating. Burial will follow at Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the church.
