Elk County Catholic Tops Lady Tide 5-2

ST.MARYS – The Curwensville Lady Tide softball team went toe- to- toe with Elk County Catholic (ECC) Tuesday afternoon in St. Marys and when the dust settled the Lady Crusaders came out on top in a tough battle, 5-2.

Lady Tide head coach Allen Legiey was upbeat even after the tough defeat, saying, “I will say this. We played as great a game as we possibly could. We had a couple of opportunities during the game that we just didn’t cash in on. But I am very proud of our total team effort against a quality squad like Elk County Catholic.”

Elk County Catholic scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning, which turned out to be all they would need to pick up the victory.

The Lady Tide would score its only two runs in the top of the fifth and had just three hits on the day, all singles. One each by Alaina Stiles, Nikki Harker and Haley McGarry.

ECC smacked three doubles on the afternoon, two by Josie Smith and one by S. Yanak.

Maddy Schneider, M. Heary, and Smith each had two hits for the Lady Crusaders.

The Lady Tide (6-4) will once again play ECC, on Wednesday, this time in Curwensville, with game time set for 4:15 pm.
