William D. Thompson, 84, of New Cumberland died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Hershey Medical Center. Born Nov. 25, 1930 in Tarentum, he was the son of the late Robert and Betty Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, Etters. He retired as a staff sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. Mr. Thompson served during the Korean War and Vietnam era.
He married Betty Jane Rothrock Thompson on Feb. 13, 1951 in Frederick, Md. She preceded him in death Aug. 28, 2011.
He’s survived by two sons, Douglas Thompson and his wife, Deborah of Mechanicsburg and James Thompson and his wife, Karen of New Freedom; five grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Jennifer and Christopher Thompson and Brittany Thompson Smith; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. He was the last of his generation.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with the Pastor Timothy D. Richmond officiating. Burial will be in the Summit Hill United Methodist Cemetery, Morrisdale.
Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.
