CURWENSVILLE — After being shut out on Friday by their rival from up the road, the Curwensville Golden Tide had no time to rest up because the games keep coming. Â Monday afternoon, they were back on their home field as they hosted the St. Mary’s Flying Dutch.
Unfortunately for the Tide, they were out muscled in the latter stages of the contest.
St. Mary’s broke open a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth inning in a big way, and never let off the accelerator. Â In the following three innings, the Dutch would bring home 13 runs to rout the Tide in a 14-2 contest that only went six innings after the 10-run mercy rule was put in effect.
Jared Groll was lights-out on the mound for St. Marys, as he picked up the win with four innings of work, yielding only two runs on four hits, with eight strike-outs.  On the opposite side, Curwensville had a tough time matching up. Bryce Timko started the game, lasting three innings and only giving up two runs, but after that the relief was nowhere in site.
The three pitchers afterwards gave up the final 12 runs, with A.J. Bloom getting the loss after giving up six runs, all earned, on three hits and three walks in only 2/3 of an inning.
The game was tied 2-2 entering the fourth inning.  Groll scored on a fielder’s choice to start the scoring in the third, while Hayden Tettis  was brought in on an RBI-single by Aaron Piccolo.  Curwensvile came back to tie the game in the bottom half of the frame as Jake Terry scored on an error, while A.J. Bloom hit an RBI-double to score Jake B. Stiles.
After that, it was all St. Mary’s.
Hunter Fantechi scored on consecutive walks by Nick Bauer and Groll. Â Bauer would then score when RJ Johnston was hit by a pitch by Bloom. Â A two-RBI double by Michael Beimel would then bring in Groll and Tettis. Â Fantechi would be back at the plate in the inning, hitting an RBI-single to left field to plate Johnston, and the final run of the inning came when Tim Beimel would be hit by a pitch, bringing in his brother.
The lone run in the fifth inning came when Groll scored on a ground-out..
The sixth inning ultimately put the nail in the coffin for the Tide, as it started when Bauer nailed an RBI-double to left field, bringing in Piccolo. Â Michael Beimel would walk home, as would Bauer. Â Groll would score on four consecutive walks. Â The final run came when Piccolo would make it to first on an error, bringing in Kirkland McClain.
Curwensville (1-9) is on the road Tuesday to face Elk County Catholic.
