DUBOIS – Police Chief Ronald LaRotonda announced a new Web site for the department, www.duboispolice.com, at Monday night’s DuBois City Council meeting.
Individuals can sign up for alerts from the Web site regarding missing children, road closures and other notifications.
“The more people we can get signed up, the more people can see what is going on across the community,” he said.
Councilwoman Diane Bernardo asked LaRotonda to clarify how Megan’s Law worked regarding the local police department. LaRotonda explained that all individuals who are registered under Megan’s Law report to the Pennsylvania State Police who then notify the DuBois City Police Department.
There are two tiers of offenders, he said. The baseline offender, he explained, results in the state police only notifying the local police that the offender is living in the city. However, he explained that the next tier results in notification of every resident, including individual apartments, within a 250-foot radius of the residence, school districts and nurseries.
In other business, Solicitor Toni Cherry read Ordinance 1794 to detail the proposed noise ordinance for DuBois City. According to the proposed ordinance, the threshold is 100 dBA, decibel A-rating, at 50 feet away.
If approved, there will be a fine of $150 for the first conviction; this fine will double on the second conviction. The ordinance needs to be approved by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board before it can go into effect, said Cherry.
