CLEARFIELD – A former DuBois man pleaded guilty to selling drugs during sentencing court in Clearfield County.
David V. August, 37, an inmate of the Indiana County Jail, pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance, criminal use of communication facility in two cases and to criminal attempt/delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of communication facility in a third case. He was sentenced to 18 months to five years in state prison by Judge Paul E. Cherry.
According to the affidavits of probable cause, the charges stem from undercover buys in August of 2012 and January of 2013.
On Aug. 10, 2012, an undercover agent got a call from an informant who said a purchase of marijuana could be made from August. Arrangements were made to meet with him on Aug. 11, 2012 at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Sandy Township. There the undercover agent purchased an ounce of marijuana for $325.
On Aug. 21, 2012, an informant told an officer that August said he could obtain cocaine from another individual and sell it for $80 per gram. A deal was made for an undercover officer to purchase three grams of cocaine from August. The next day, the officer met with August and was given three plastic bags containing a white substance in exchange for $240. He told the undercover officer he had more cocaine to sell and he would be getting more marijuana later in the week.
On Jan. 27, 2013, an informant told an officer there was call from August, who said he had “stuff” meaning cocaine. When the officer spoke with August he explained he had to go to Reynoldsville to put up the cocaine.
The officer asked if she could go along. They agreed he would pick her up in a parking lot. But after he saw police in the area, he changed his mind. They agreed then to meet at Sheetz. When he saw police in that area, he again drove on by. He was nervous about the transaction, saying he didn’t want to go to jail.
August was one of six people arrested in “Operation Wrong Choice” in October of 2013. According to a press release from District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr., agents from the Office of Attorney General – Bureau of Narcotics Identification, along with officers from the DuBois City Police Department, Clearfield County Drug Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police were involved in the investigation and arrests.
