Hillary Clinton allies are working to discredit the author of the forthcoming book “Clinton Cash” as a biased conservative operative gunning for the frontrunner of the Democratic presidential nomination.
But “Clinton Cash” author Peter Schweizer on Thursday revealed his next target: Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush.
Schweizer told Bloomberg Politics on Thursday that he and a team of researchers are looking into Bush’s financial dealings in the same way they scrutinized the Clintons. The book on Bush, who leads the Republican presidential field in the latest CNN/ORC poll, would be published this summer.
“What we’re doing is a drill-down investigation of Jeb’s finances similar to what we did with the Clintons in terms of looking at financial dealings, cronyism, who he’s been involved with,” Schweizer told the news site. “We’ve found some interesting things.”
Schweizer’s look into the Clintons, slated for a May 5 release, homed in on foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation and foreign speaking fees paid to President Bill Clinton — and the link between those payments and State Department policies while Hillary Clinton helmed the State Department.
The Bush investigation, which has already been ongoing for months, is looking at financial deals involving Bush while he was governor and in his private sector work.
Schweizer sealed deals with several media organizations to investigate the findings of “Clinton Cash” and he told Bloomberg he hopes to do the same with the book on Bush.
It’s not the first time Schweizer will have looked into the Bush family. He also published “The Bushes: Portrait of a Dynasty” ten years ago after conducting interviews with members of the Bush family.
Schweizer also served as a consultant to President George W. Bush’s speechwriting team in the last year of his presidency.
