DUBOIS – An Ohio man is facing charges after being found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office April 16, David M. Coleman, 54, 6200 E. Route 571, Tipp City, Ohio, is charged by the Sandy Township police with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and public drunkenness.
According to the affidavit, on Feb. 28, police were called to the Sheetz Store on the Blinker Parkway in DuBois for a man who was slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle in the parking lot.
When they arrived, the officers were directed to a black Ford Explorer with an Ohio plate. The driver had attempted to leave but had been blocked in by an EMS unit.
The officers could see a man sitting in the driver’s seat and could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was unable to focus and could not respond to request to provide a driver’s license and other documents at first.
The officers asked where the driver, later identified as Coleman, was going and Coleman allegedly responded with “home.”
After being evaluated by EMT’s to ensure Coleman was not having a medical emergency, Coleman was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois without incident.
Blood-alcohol testing showed Coleman had a BAC of over 0.300 percent at the time of the incident.
