DUBOIS – On Monday night, the Sandy Township Supervisors approved to allow the local DuBois All American Soap Box Derby at Industrial Park Drive.
The Soap Box Derby will be June 19-20. Mandatory trial runs will take place from June 10-12.
“We won’t let a kid go down the hill until we are sure they can do it,” said Charlie Reynolds, derby organizer, said.
Each participant, she said, will be tested to make sure they are able to steer and stop their vehicles before they can participate in the race.
Reynolds said that the derby is a “good, family event.” She said that the children race the derby cars; however, they’ll need the help of their parents to build them.
The supervisors offered praise for the event.
In other business, the supervisors cancelled the April 20 meeting due to there likely not being a quorum. Council noted that several members will be attending the Pennsylvania State Associate of Township Supervisors annual conference.
Council reported that the Camp Mountain Road Bridge project should reach the next stage in mid-May.
The Slab Run, West Liberty and Sykesville sections of Sandy Township’s sewer system were added by council as exemptions to Ordinance 2-2015.
The ordinance affects industrial sewer usage and is required by the state Department of Environmental Protection of the sections of Sandy Township’s sewer system that feed into the DuBois City sewer system.
