CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Fair & Park Board officials announced grandstand stage and other entertainment for the 155th Clearfield County Fair during a press conference Monday morning. Grandstand concert entertainment will feature “Rock of the 70’s” with The Guess Who, Al Stewart, FireFall and Orleans on Tuesday, Aug. 4; Theory of a Deadman on Wednesday, Aug. 5; Little Big Town with David Nail and Ashley Monroe on Friday, Aug. 7; and the Under the Sun Tour with Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker, Better Than Ezra and Eve 6 on Saturday, Aug. 8.
All grandstand concert entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m. All will be standing room only in the bleacher and track area. Tickets will be available starting 10 a.m. Tuesday through the official fair Web site. All tickets purchased through April 17 will include gate admission, according to Brenda Morgan, fair public relations and marketing director.
“We have a very diverse line-up this year; there’s something for almost everyone,” said David Franson II of the Fair & Park Board. “I think it’s one of the most diverse line-ups that we’ve had in a long time.” Fair Manager Greg Hallstrom added concertgoers will be treated to multiple acts, with exception to the Theory of a Deadman show, which could still change between now and fair week.
The Full Pull Productions Truck/Tractor Pull will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6. A BMX Bicycle Stunt Show will also be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. Both events will have general admission tickets and be held at the grandstand.
In previous years, there were reserved tickets for the Truck/Tractor Pull. However, fair officials wanted to make it more convenient for attendees to sit with family and friends at the Truck/Tractor Pull, as well as to expedite service at the ticket office, said Morgan.
Last year, Morgan said Harness Racing was held Sunday through Wednesday. She said because it was so well-received, fair officials have decided to keep the same harness racing schedule as last year with post time being at 12 p.m. each day.
David H. Litz Grove Stage Entertainment
So far as the free entertainment on the David H. Litz Grove Stage, Franson said fair officials will experiment with something new on Wednesday and offer an “open mic and acoustic” performance opportunity.
Franson said anyone who is interested in performing will be able to sign up at the fair office in the near future. He said they hope to help local artists get their name out and bookings for future shows.
According to him, Dan & Gala, a variety act, and Dirtkicker will perform Thursday and the Primer Greys and Dan & Gala on Friday at the Grove Stage. He said Saturday’s entertainment will include the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub burger-eating challenge and the Moore Brothers.
Expo II Plaza
Hallstrom said that fair officials try to “change up” and bring in new entertainment for the Expo II Plaza. In the past, he said the plaza has featured Buffo the World’s Strongest Clown; this year he said it will feature the Strongest Woman, Mama Lou.
According to him, the Bar C Ranch Petting Zoo & Camel Rides will return to the Expo II Plaza. He said that other Expo II Plaza entertainment will include the return of the Circle C Hogway Speedway, as well as more new acts, such as the Rhinestone Roper and the High Flying Act.
Hallstrom said fair officials have also booked a Zip Line act for the Expo II Plaza. However, he said this will require an additional cost to fairgoers.
Special Admission Days
Kid’s Day will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4 with a free show featuring Garfield Live at 10 a.m. on the Grandstand stage. A meet-and-greet will follow at the Grove Stage, said Morgan.
She said other Kid’s Day events will include a whipped cream eating contest, the pedal tractor pull and Dan & Gala, a family and kid-friendly variety act at the Grove Stage.
Senior citizens who are over the age of 65 years will be admitted free from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4 and Thursday, Aug. 6. Active and inactive military personnel will be admitted free from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, said Hallstrom.
The Clearfield County Fair gets under way with Preview Day on Sunday, Aug. 2 and closes on Saturday, Aug. 8.
