China’s former top domestic security official, Zhou Yongkang, has been formally charged as part of a corruption probe, the country’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Zhou has been charged with accepting bribes, abuse of power and leaking state secrets, Xinhua said Friday. His case will be tried in Tianjin, near Beijing.
Zhou — who had been one of nine members of China’s top decision-making body, the Politburo Standing Committee, before stepping down in late 2012 — is the most senior official to get caught up in President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign.
